Given that I work in a development environment geared towards BEA Weblogic server, the in house IDE of choice is Eclipse. We have been using it for quite a while in leu of the BEA Weblogic Workshop. If you have been using Eclipse much, I am sure you love it, but there are some shortcomings. Our development workshop has found and long loved MyEclipse as a fundamental Eclipse plugin for day to day coding.
The benefits are numerous to us. I am sure I will miss quite a few of them, but of great use to us are:
- Struts Designer
- XML Editor
- Visual Web Designer
- Javascript Editor
- Workbench Configuration
- Database Explorer
For those of you in a fast paced development environment I can’t recommend it enough. For others that get more into the front end side of the house, you will find great support for Ajax, CSS, Templates, etc.
I can’t mention my employer by name, but we are a large dev house serving mission critical web apps to over 2500 locations and 250,000 employees. The server product we will use going forward is currently up for discussion, but Eclipse and more importantly MyEclipse will be prevelant no matter which Java Server we decide to use.
