2007 NBA All-Star Game to be broadcast in 3D HD

The NBA and PACE have teamed together to offer the first live sports even broadcast in 3D HD. There will be special viewing parties sponsored by EA Sports and the All-Star game.

The viewing parties will take place at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas and are open to a special invite only list so don’t get your hopes up.

Steve Hellmuth, NBA senior vice president of operations and technology compared what he saw to “a spectacular view of our game from a courtside seat.”

NBA vice president of engineering Mike Rokosa said that NBA owners have yet to see the 3D HD technology, it’s hard to say what the next step will be. He said one possibility might be to have 3D HD showings of games in theaters or arenas during the NBA Finals in the cities of the participating teams.

As for when such technology will be available in homes, Rokosa was hesitant but predicted less than 10 years.

I for one am very excited about this technology and would love to see a demo! If you need a blogger to write about it, HOOK ME UP! :)

I am a huge NBA and Cleveland Cavaliers fan so I will definitely be watching the All-Star game and skills challenge, in HD, but obviously not in 3D.
