Google Desktop for Widgets that Beat Vista

February 15th, 2007 § 0 comments

I am using the top of the line Windows Vista Ultimate Operating System on this PC. I am loving it for the most part, but recently I found need to revert back to something I grew to love on XP. I disabled the Windows Desktop Widgets and re-installed the Google Desktop Sidebar.

One of the main reasons for this is the Adsense Widget, but there are others. I really like the syndication of links and to-do’s, there are literally hundreds of available widgets now and the API to design your own is a piece of cake. Now with Yahoo Pipes you can spin a custom feed to get all of the information you want at any time pumping onto your sidebar with no work (you can do that with Vista’s widgets too)

Currently I keep my Adsense status, News from MSNBC.com, Scratch Pad, To-Dos, Random Photos, Web Clips, The weather and a Google Searchbox.

The other huge advantage for Google Desktop, especially for XP users, is Desktop search, it works fantastic and allows you to search files, email, websites and more. It’s integrated, fast and very useful.

If you haven’t had a chance to use it yet, download it below and give it a shot, it’s definitely worth your time.
