I am a huge NBA fan, I am awaiting the all star game today as a matter of fact. Beer and basketball, it just doesn’t get much better than that on a Sunday afternoon.
If you read my earlier post, you already know that I decided to plunk down the duckets for a Playstation 3 Friday night. One of the two games I purchased was 2K Sports’ NBA 2K7.
I already play NBA Live 06 on the Xbox 360 and really enjoy it so this was a must purchase from such a limited game catalog. Yes, I know it’s new, but it’s a fact.
This game looks amazing. It’s fast also. The game play has some interesting modes, my favorite is a unique story mode where you build your player’s street cred up to try and play in the NBA. You start out in a foul shooting competition with Shaq and before long are getting schooled in a gym in Chicago by Steve Nash and Kevin Garnett in a 2 on 2 game.
I have to say that being used the the Xbox 360, the control scheme is a bit awkward. When comparing the controllers, the differences are huge for this game. It all comes down to one thing, the D-pad. If you look at the two controllers, the are almost identical in layout except for one thing. The Playstation 3 controller locates both of it’s analog sticks on the bottom inside of the controller. The Xbox 360 has one on the outside top left, and the other on the inside bottom right. This caused me to spend the first bit of the game accidentally pulling up the coaching submenu.
I also have to mention that the Playstation 3 controller is a little light for my tastes, but that’s not a big deal.
Back to the game, the game play is fast, much faster than NBA Live is on 360, I will have to rent the 2K7 game for 360 to make the judgement if it’s performance of the game.
I am not much of a GM type so I didn’t try the GM mode, but the game is a great, fast paced game with some cool story modes, incredible graphics and the last thing of note, the unique player moves.
I noticed this as soon as I brought up my Cleveland Cavaliers, Lebron shoots like Lebron, he has that little back fade, they have added signature movements that really bring these players to life.
If you have a PS3 I recommend you check out this game, it’s a lot of fun and looks great.
