Adobe gets snarky over Photoshop, er Adobe Photoshop

You better watch how you say Photoshop, Adobe is now setting the ground rules for how you can refer to their product. You aren’t allowed to photoshop images anymore. You also can’t use PS. Now if you want to enhanced your image using Adobe® Photoshop® software, that’s ok.

Seriously folks, who cares? There is a huge list of guidelines for using the name now. One of my favorites is

CORRECT: The image was enhanced with Adobe® Photoshop® Elements software.

INCORRECT: The image was photoshopped.

INCORRECT: The image was Photoshopped.

INCORRECT: The image was Adobe® Photoshopped.

Trademarks must never be used as slang terms.

Paint me guilty. I say that all of the time. I also refer to it as PS and probably will continue. I am sure this is meant for people who are writing commercially about the products, but seriously. Why would you be upset that your company’s flagship product is SO popular that it’s now a verb. I mean, if you want to start philokinging stuff, FEEL FREE!

It’s really funny if you ask me…
