Is it Miller time?

I am a life long Jordan fan. I will admit to being one of the few that was glad to see him come out of retirement and lace them up for a 3rd time. There is news afoot that Reggie Miller, 18-year veteran of the Indiana Pacers, is considering coming out of retirement to help the newly revamped Boston Celtics on a title run.

It’s no secret that with the addition of Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett, the Boston Celtics are making a run at “Win Now” instead of building around the young folks. The problem is that the 7-for-1 deal that got KG to Boston virtually stripped the roster. I think I read that they have 9 players under contract at the moment and most of them are 1st or 2nd year players.

Reggie Miller is an interesting person to look at for sure. Like MJ, Reggie Miller is one of the most conditioned in the game. He stayed surprisingly injury free for his career despite his slight frame. If he provided some veteran leadership, clutch shooting off the bench and maybe got a few future hall-of-famer calls to go his way, he could add yet another interesting angle to this Boston team.

I am going to go on record and say I like it. I wouldn’t put him at more than 20 minutes per game, but at that pace he could add a few buckets, some decent defense, and still have some gas left to crush someone’s hopes with a last minute 3 in the playoffs.

Of course they will have to re-open the checkbook and add in some not so veteran help that can still get up and down the floor for a full 48 if need be, but that’s still out there.

My only concern with this Boston team is that Ray, KG or Pierce get hurt. If they bench is as shallow as it seems it’s going to be, Doc Rivers may find himself looking down an basically empty bench.
