In setting up my new Macbook Pro, I found myself in need of some blogging software so I can continue to pester you kind people with my rantings. I use WordPress and could use the web based back end, but let’s face it, this is an instant gratification world and blogging and coding isn’t exactly easy peasy. I would rather not be concerned with tags and classes when I could use a WYSIWYG editor and just type and publish.
Back in the Windows world, I used Microsoft Live Writer. Even though my Mac is now set up with Parallels and Windows XP SP2, I am making a concerted effort to use as much native OSX software as possible and only use Parallels for software I can’t easily replace on the Mac.
I am currently writing this with an editor called Qumana. I found it on a quick Google search and decided to give it a shot. To say I am impressed would be an understatement.
This application not only gives me quick type, spell check and publish functionality, but it also gives me so much more:
- Inserting ads and tags in posts
- Insert HTML code snips in WYSIWYG mode
- Modify post date
- Allow Comments
- Allow Track backs
These are just a few of the features I found browsing around. It has a nice "Blog Manager" that lets you manage your posts and blog in general. It also has a source view for those that just can’t help but get their hands dirty.
It would appear that as long as you don’t use features like text color, it will write some really nice xhtml compliant code as well. If you are a Mac based blogger I recommend you give it a peek.
