That tells me that most users will probably be fine with the cheapest model and the standard 1 GB of memory, because processor speed is not that important anymore. Apple’s operating system clearly makes good use of memory; Microsoft Corp.’s new Windows Vista will barely give you the time of day on 1 GB.
Are you serious? Peter Svensson from MSNBC.com made this statement in an article about how the new iMac entices Windows users to switch. While I do not in any way disagree with how the new iMac would make any computer use want to switch, the statement about Vista is laughable. I purchased the HP 1.73 Ghz Core Duo with 1 GB of RAM and installed Vista Ultimate on it as soon as I got my hot little hands on the RTM release.
Not only did this machine run Vista exceptionally well, it ran it reliably. I ran Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Filezilla, World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, Illustrator and more. If my laptop with a lesser than current CPU and 1 GB of Ram handled all of these tasks so well, why is it that he claims Vista will "barely give you the time of day with 1 GB."
If you have been reading my blog you know I just switched to a Macbook Pro running OS X. I am not a Vista fanboy. But I do recognize a good operating system that continually gets a massive amount of undeserved bad press.
If you run Vista on a current dual core machine, with 1 GB of Ram, you will not have any problems. I can send you to half a dozen people who do that I speak to daily that will attest to that fact.
Don’t put Vista on a single core machine. Don’t install it on a computer with 512 MB Ram. Be smart and put it on a capable machine.
Please people, quit slinging garbage about how Vista needs 4 GB of Ram to run decent, it’s just not true.

Well, good point.. A would like to add: I´m running Windows Vista Home Premium on a Athlon 64 3000 single core with 1 GB without a problem. Running Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesing (all CS3, games like FEARS, NFS Carbon and Halo 2 better my old XP system… It´s really weird Vista have all this bad press. There´s some kind of obscure lobby out there?
