I am writing this little post to give fellow Mac users some details on probably the most useful application I have found for the Mac so far. Now I realize that I am not the first person to find or blog about this application, Quicksilver is all over the net and well covered by immensely popular sites like 43folders.
Quicksilver is an application launcher, that in itself is no great miracle. It’s the implementation of it itself that makes this application so damned useful. Now as I write this, I am using Firefox, blogging in Qumana, chatting with a few friends and trying with little luck to watch a movie. That’s a lot of juggling, but the miracle of the PC use, is for the last half hour, I don’t think I have had to use the track pad once. A few keystrokes with Quicksilver has me launching applications, finding files, browsing music, pulling up web sites and emailing things with reckless, yet completely organized and efficient abandon…I don’t think that makes sense, but it’s true.
Quicksilver’s complexity and usefulness is completely shrouded by the simplicity and lack of information on it’s web site. A quick visit to the web will find a wealth of tutorials that I have not even come close to going through. Even without this mountain of info, I am still amazed with what this program can do. I will write up a more focused tutorial when I get more into it, but for now, install it, you will be glad that you did.
