Okie dokie…my name is Stephen and I would like to tell you about a fantastic little movie I found recently. Ok, my name isn’t Stephen, but once you watch this movie, you’ll get my little joke…okie dokie?
This was one of those $1 rentals at Redbox we picked up simply because it had two people I really like in it. David Schwimmer and Simon Pegg.
This little gem is called “Big Nothing,” and it’s a fantastic dark comedy that is just brilliant.
IMDB describes it as:
Charlie is an ex-teacher turned reluctant call center employee who gets fired on the first day. Distraught on being unable to provide for his daughter Emily and cop wife, Penelope, he is suddenly contacted by Gus, an aspiring scam artist who presents Charlie with a seemingly snag-free plan to make some cash: Blackmail Reverend Smalls a man of the cloth, who’s frequently turned up in the company database of visitors to illegal porn-sites. Gus plans on extorting Reverend Smalls, with the intention of publicly exposing his secret shame, should he refuse, with this scandal potentially destroying the man’s career. Normally cautious Charlie, is keen on participating in this scam, confident that with this money maker he’ll garner from the deal and will finally help turn things around for him and his family. Joined by one-time teenage pageant queen Josie McBroom Gus’s ex, the plan goes ahead…but it all goes wrong as Reverend Smalls dies…thanks to this trio, with this only being the start of their troubles.
Ok, that might be a bit of a spoiler, it shows quite a bit of the plot, but trust me, this is a must watch film! If you like David Schwimmer it’s a no brainer, he is his usual neurotic self in this one. The real star of this movie, however, is Simon Pegg of Shaun of the Dead and more recently Hot Fuzz fame.
Having completely ditched his natural British accent for a strait up Midwestern drawn, this movie is can’t miss.
We bought it tonight, and I recommend you do the same.

Personally, I think that some of the best movies are the ones that look horrible and you don’t want to rent them.
Take Rot City, for instance. It’s funny and it’s a cartoon, but it’s for all those sick, b-movie horror fans–and hardly anyone knows about it.
Anyway, I’ll have to check this one out.
Thanks for the great site, by the way!
