Add “My Computer” to your Vista Task bar

I know there are newer, better and faster ways to view and deal with files in Vista, but I am still a glutton for “My Computer.” I can’t tell you how many times that I need to find something, I start browsing through My Computer. This tip is for those of you like me who want to get to it quickly.

This tip also works for adding any folder to your task bar for quick access. To add a folder to your task bar do the following:

  • Right-Click on the task bar and choose the Toolbars Menu
  • Click on New Toolbar.
  • Find the folder that you want, for this example we will use “Computer”

Now you can see the Computer folder right there on the task bar. If you click the arrow on the right it will pop up and let you browse through all of your drives.

Note: I still an a command line junkie, if you really want to get to folders fast, you can click the start button (or use the Windows Key), pull up the run box, and start typing a path, you will find that it will auto fill the remainder of folder names when it finds unique matches.

I use this feature almost exclusively to get to folders quickly.
