I believe you mentioned referencing your previous articles. I've seen many prominent blogs develop a highly organized system of internal linking. It is something that I would like to try and produce on my blogs to improve the search engine effect.

Certainly you are right Avinash, there is no replacement for fresh relevant content. I know that as much as anyone, I write 3 or more articles a day usually. If you follow topic on my site you will see many articles to that point, I just wanted to make sure budding bloggers did not consider their current articles DOA and leave them to an early grave from an SEO perspective. You might write an article for one purpose, only to find that all of the readers that find it organically are looking at it from a different perspective!

Jason: Great article, full of some very interesting ideas about how to learn from the data you are getting but then to try and see how to use good techniques to create a deeper relationship with the visitor.

Certainly adding something to an older post is quite ok, but I think for search engines freshness is important (new content - both to google and technorati etc) so if do do have some decent amount of new content then it is often more optimal to write a new post, get that fresh page out there (and of course add a link to the old one etc).
