Review: HTC Mogul - A REAL Smartphone
I have made the switch from Verizon to Sprint. Along with new service comes a new phone. The Phone of choice this time is the HTC Mogul. I don’t want to gush, but so far I am blown away with this phone.
My first experience with the smart phone wasn’t that positive. The Q’s interface is pretty sluggish, the lack of touchscreen is a bit annoying for a Windows interface, and it’s just plain big. You can’t put it in your pocket.
This new phone makes all those go away. It’s dual core processor is snappy, the touchscreen interface is great although it doesn’t work too well with your fingers most of the time, and it’s perfect for your pocket.
To cover the basics you have:
- Full QWERTY slide out keyboard
- 2.0 Megapixel Digital Camera
- Touchscreen interface
- microSD Slot
- 802.11 b/g
- Bluetooth
- Tethered Data Support
- Voice Recognition
Pretty hefty feature set eh? The voice recognition turned out to be really handy today. While driving back from the mall, I decided to get an oil change. I opened Windows Live Search, said, "Redmond Washington," then "Oil Change" and bang, Jiffy’s details were up on the screen and ready to be entered into the navigation system. How sweet!
I have tried the Bluetooth networking with my laptop and it worked perfectly. The camera phone does pretty good. I am pretty pleased with it.
The slide out keyboard is fantastic compared to the cramped feel of the Q. It’s much more comfortable to bang out those quick mails and text messages on. On that note I had no trouble getting it on my personal and corporate email. Enter a few settings and it was getting mail, contacts and appointments in real time. A fantastic experience compared to the ultimate failure I had with Verizon’s push software on the Q.
If you are looking for a phone I can definitely recommend this one.
