lol, I know this blog is old but... srsly?

"I thought it was fantastic that it ran so well on Vista 64-bit. It appears to me that WoW navitely supports 64-bit"

WOW! What roger was trying to tell you is that x86 programs DO NOT run in 64 bit, the run in 32. WoW does NOT send 64 bit instructions to the cpu. It is "this new video card" that made it run well, you would have noticed NO difference if it had been running on a 32 bit os. I hope your technical expertise has improved in the couple years since this has been posted.

Hi, I just built an intel core i5 system for my son who uses a computer primarily to play WoW. I am at the point of installing the OS and only have 32bit XP pro. I have been hesitant to install it because I have read comments that using a 32 bit OS wouldn't get the most out of my hardware. I am an IT professional and have not played WoW, or any other computer games, because after working all day with the damn things you just don't want to. That being said, I have no freaking clue about how this game is written or how it addresses memory. I do somewhat agree with "NOOBSHANKR's" statement that the 64 bit OS's use a type of emulation called, ironically, WoW64 (Windows 32-bit On Windows 64-bit). Logically it would seem that if WoW is written to address memory using 32 bits, then using a 64 bit OS would not help at all and maybe hurt. The thing is, all I can do is theorize and only real life test configurations tell the true story. So, my question to the forum is: Has anyone moved from a 32 bit OS to a 64 bit OS without changing hardware and notice a SIGNIFICANT increase in performance of WoW? Thanks.

"because of the fact the system load is technically half of what it would be on a single 32-bit os".

That's nonsense, so your idea is that a 64-bit system load is half the 64-bit system load because 64 = 32 x 2 ?

That's just wrong. WRONG.

That's also an amazing statement, coming from someone who just offended another being.

I wonder who the ignorant bastard is.

I don't want to be an moron/jackass, but you have to be the biggest tool to say that Vista is better than XP in terms of gaming performance. The ONLY improvement in my games on Vista that I've seen was the loading times, they were shorter, but I wouldn't waste my overall performance for ~2 seconds of my life.

Vista just isn't good when it comes to crappy PCs, even for the high-end ones too. I mean, who would sacrifice performance just to say "Hai, I haz vista!" and "shiny" "eye-candy".

RAM speed is largely irrelevant compared to amount of RAM for reason I won't go into to.

Above 4GB on 32-bit is a waste of money. on most modern system with high end GPU cards above 3GB system RAM is a waste of money.

CPU should have as fast a FSB as possible with as large a L2C as possible.

Go for chip speed over cores for obvious reasons.

Fast hard drives matter for loads only unless you are paging, if you are paging something needs fixing above. If you hung up on disk speed go for 10,000RPM in a RAID0 config. choose disks with large caches to maximise soft reads.

64-bit may or may not boost performance on 32-bit applications. it varies from program to program. some 32-bit apps do run better in native 32-bit operating systems than in virtual 32-bit environments.

get as fast a GPU as possible with as much RAM as possible. crossfire may or may not make a huge difference, but should always increase frame rates to some degree.

Monitor size matters. get high frame rate on 19" is a lot easier than getting the same frame rate on 30". resolution and colour depth make a huge difference.
