Crysis Crisis? Fix Your Crashes, Freezes, and Long Load Times

In: Gaming

26 Feb 2008

image You bought Crysis, fell in love with it, then you downloaded the Jan 08 patch for all the cool fixes and tweaks and all of a sudden it takes 30 minutes to load your saved game or 45 minutes to recover from the freeze at every checkpoint! Ubersuck! Disturbing isn’t it? EA should thank its shooting stars that the game is stellar enough to send people out searching for a fix otherwise we’d all give up and toss it into the pile of unplayable trash games we wish we could turn in for a refund.

I was resolved, but everywhere I virtually turned, I read tales of woe from numerous people having the same problem. The Internet geek squad responds to our desperate gamespot bulletins with instructions to clean our temp files and defrag our hard drives. *eyeroll*

Without further ado:

Behavior:

· At the end of Onslaught, the game freezes and you are unable to save the last checkpoint to move onto the next level; Awakening.

· Once you get into Awakening, you start to load your saved game, and you might as well go rebuild an engine or knit a sweater while you wait for it to finish.

· Every checkpoint takes 30 to 45 minutes to save and move forward.

Resolution:

STEP 1: Delete your superfluous saved games located in:

(XP) “C:\Documents and Settings\yourprofile\My Documents\My Games\Crysis\Savegames” or (Vista) “C:\Users\yourprofile\Documents\My Games\Crysis\Savegames”.

Make sure you only delete the multiple entries for each level. Your saved game will include a file for each level such as “dawngrrl_Onslaught_crysis.crysisjmsf” and then you will see some with a date included in the filename such as “dawngrrl_13_Onslaught_crysis_03m_32s.crysisjmsf. These are the interim save points within your game. Delete them all save for the most recent (highest number order).  If this doesn’t work, your saved games are likely corrupted. Yuck!

image STEP 2: Head over to Incrysis, because thankfully, from somewhere in nowhere Kansas, Luigi has been hard at work so you can yank a saved game from him. Download the level you’re stuck on and replace it with the one in your profile (You will need to change Luigi_ to YourProfile_, of course.) and then start the level without any delays. Moo Chess Grassy Ass, Luigi, I for one am most grateful and hopefully you can help the rest of the sad searching crysians find their way!

Alternatively, you could just uninstall and reinstall the game without adding the 1.1 patch and your stuck yuck should go away – but the patch has some sweet memory leak fixes that are beneficial enough to be worth it.

Kiss Kiss,

Nice piece of information, but I believe that the name of the game itself has said it all. Crysis = crisis. Lol.

Good thing I pirated this game. To think I was actually going to buy this defective piece of crap.

I’d regret getting scammed.

I have a 4870 x2 gpu with 4G ram and a quad core cpu, and velociraptor HD, so I’m not limited for speed. My CPU/RAM vista sidebar which I have on my second screen shows the cpu working at 40% ish and RAM at 83% most of the time for the game. BUT, the game slows down for me when the sidebar shows the RAM going over 90% usage. Is this just my setup or is Cry sis really a +4G RAM Game?

@ Frag_Tard

I have a very similar set up to you, ‘cept a 4870 1024 GFX card. I’m running the game at Very High Settings, using Tripple C’s config, getting around 30 FPS, at high I’m getting about 40-45. Crysis will use up everything you have to offer, it’ll use +4G RAM if you have there to be consumed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a lovely looking/well running game out o’ 4G

Sadly, none of the above helped.
Yuck still stuck, in the muck! wtf!
Can not finish the last level without crashing.
ctrl alt del required to get back to the desktop.
Yanked the last level from Luigi, maybe I did not yank hard enough. Becaue my yuck, is still stuck, in the muck. wtf!
The uninstall & reinstall without the patch still caused a crash for my yuck stuck in the muck. wtf.

Am trying to solve these issues aswell, what i found out till now is that in windows 7 the game will run perfectly when you run it as an administrator but when you apply the 1.21 patch (wich is build in steam and ea versions) you will be kicked back to windows when you try to apply new settings (like display or input settings).

There is no fix available for this at the moment but several people reported the problems but we doubt they will do anything about it since its a 3 year old game.

Workarround: Install the game from a retail DVD version install patch 1.2 and run crysis.exe as an admin. If you only wanna play single player the game will run fine like this (patch 1.21 gives the problems).

If you wanna play multiplayer you gonna need the 1.21 patch so enter the game when only patch 1.2 is on it adjust to the settings you want (make a backup of the config file located in your windows user folder, just to be sure you won’t loose your settings again) and patch to version 1.21 you won’t be able to make changes after 1.21 is applied but the old settings should still be configured, if not just copy your backupped config file back.

Now am gonna frag some people cause am freaking frustrated.
