Mac users give Mac a bad name….

Net4Mac.com, a new social networking site for Mac users (as if that wasn’t a bad enough business model as it is, decided that supporting IE at all is just pointless.

Now I don’t know if it’s not supported because their web devs are too lazy to make it happen, unable to manage it from a tech perspective, or are just so eat up with the Mac Kool Aid that they decided a social network of only Mac Users was a good idea, but either way, it’s just ridiculous to me.

This is the kind of elitism that gives Mac that cultish persona that makes people think we are all hippie burnouts turned tech guys, who all drive subarus, wear sandles with socks, shave on even years, end every sentence with maaaannn and eat shrubs while we sing folk songs at an eco friendly campfire hosted by Al Gore.

The plain truth of it is some of us Mac users live in a Microsoft Windows world during the day, and only turn on our gleaming macs in the evening. Do you really want me to have no access to the social network during the day which is probably the time MOST people check them. Duh.

Pfft.

Note: Ok guys, this is 2008, we don’t want no stinkin thick client app, make it thin or go home….that’s just ridiculous!

How different is this from the days of MSNBC and other such sites precluding you from their video content if you were using Safari or Firefox (Windows version as well)? There have been other sites that have done this too, but I always grew frustrated by MSNBC.

Thank you.

Not to mention that all the client app is a stripped down pre-programmed browser.

The industry standard solution for web developers is to support Internet Explorer anyway. Even on a Mac site you are losing customers this way.

IE is lacking in CSS support, but a knowledgeable web developer can solve most of these issues and manage to do all he needs to in only IE-compatible CSS.

Thanks for info.
I think, any developper must design a website which goes alright with both of IE and FireFox, because they are the most popular browsers all over the world !
