14 Jun 2008Every once and awhile, I think it’s fun to show people where I work. When I am at home, I am quite pampered by technology. All of my computers are fast, all my displays are big and my chair is cushy. Luckily for me the couch upstairs is more comfortable so I don’t LIVE down here, but I thought it would be fun to show you all around so you can see where I work on my site, apps, photos, music and blog from.
This view shows mainly the music side of the house. The computers you see along the far wall are both Macs, a 24” iMac and a 15.4” Macbook Pro.
Personally I prefer Apple’s Logic for my music creation so the audio hardware is all Mac.
The laptop is also my personal carry around laptop that I blog from occasionally as well as work with photos when I am on the go.
I love my Macs and defend them at work with Vigor. But the two Macs look a bit anemic when you look at the other side of the room.
The music gear is designed to be all digital. I simulate all my guitar tones with a Line6 Podxt Pro, and record with a 16-channel Firewire mixer/audio interface made by Alesis.
The studio monitors are KRK RP5 Rokit’s and they sound phenomenal. Also sprinkled around is an M-Audio FastTrack Pro, Fostex BR8-HD Digital 8 Track and an M-Audio Keystation 49 Midi Keyboard. Of course there are tons of software additions in there too.
The PC side of the room is all Vista these days. I gave up XP for good several weeks ago when I built a new PC. The PCs are not crazy powerful, but they do the job:
That’s a pretty hefty bit of hardware to occupy one room. I use the left computer for all of my daily work and web development stuff, and the right one runs media center on the smaller monitor while I do Visual Studio, Photography work and light gaming on the 24” monitor. The laptop is my work laptop. Nothing else special to note here, just a lot of PC mojo.
The last photo looks past the computers to show the rest of the room. You can see my guitars and my snakes. The guitars a collection of different brands:
This makes for a pretty versatile set for playing and recording, I keep them tuned quite a few different ways so I can just pick them up and jam out.
That’s about all to show, I’ll probably pop back in this weekend and do an updated geek bag and photo bag blog.
