So it’s here, my beast. I went and picked it up this morning and got it all set up, now I am installing Logic Studio on it. What is it you ask? An Apple Mac Pro, Dual 2.8Ghz Quad Core Xeon, 6GB of Ram (10GB when they get more in stock), a 320GB and two 500GB internal hard disks, ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT Video card and two LG 22” 1680×1050 LCD monitors. Woof…
So what is it I need all this power for you ask? Well, if you haven’t messed much with high end audio production, the real monster system use tons of DSP cards to power effects and allow high track counts. In my “host” based system, instead of the two 2.13Ghz cores my iMac has, I have eight 2.8Ghz cores to power the music.
This should mean I can get what I want as far as sounds go without taxing my system to death. Also I should be able to zoom along in Aperture when I am working on my photos.
I’ll let you know how it runs when I get Logic Studio installed, says I still have a few hours to go!
Until then, here is one more photo of the system set up with my audio hardware hooked up and the OS running.
The installation of the extra memory and hard disk was painless and very nearly didn’t require tools.
I had a hard time making the monitor decision as it was hard to decide single 30” or dual 22”/24”. Finally after making it to Frys (I wasn’t buying Apple monitors, they are insanely priced) I decided two 24” was overkill and a single 30” wasn’t the best for Logic’s very wide layout. So dual LG 22”s it is.

Very impressive set up indeed. Same G5 we have in our studio – you’ll love it – no doubt! I’m glad V- shared the blog with me. Now I want a few more monitors myself! Ha! One day Macs will rule the world.
