Interesting Real World Vista Impressions…

Recently I added a poll to my web site to gauge the current opinion of things that I find interesting. I started the poll with a simple stat poll of what OS people are using and what their future plans for operating system are.

The poll had four options meant to cover most users. The real question is who is using Vista, but I crafted the answers to get a few different things out of it.

Already on Vista, can’t wait for Windows 7!

The winning option, and the one I selected, is really uplifting for those of us who make our living in the Microsoft camp. Despite all of the negative sentiment and marketing around Windows Vista, it appears that out of all votes cast, 52% of the readers who responded are already using Vista and are excited to get a hold of Windows 7.

XP is fine, waiting for Windows 7.

Coming in second are the ones who seem to have been skeptical to take the leap to Vista or have had bad experiences and switched back to XP. I would be curious to see the subset of these people who experienced Vista pre SP1, but regardless there seems to be 30% of responders who are quite content on XP but share similar excitement for Windows 7.

Don’t use Windows, Won’t use Windows.

15% actually out-performs what is generally accepted as Windows market share, so that’s a significant number. I am assuming a large percentage of these are Mac users as I do write quite a bit about OS X and Apple products. I would guess that the Linux contingent here is less than 5% so that’s a 10% +/- for Apple here, not too bad.

Looking at alternative OSes.

I am definitely loving this number. Giving that I KNOW how large the percentage of Windows users who view my site is, that means that 3% of the responders are not content and are actively looking at other options.

These numbers are pretty interesting to me. I loaded a new poll today and I will continue to do so. Please get involved and answer, I think the results are of interest to everyone.
