What’s in your Geek Bag?

In: Technology

IMG_8326 I like to do these every so often if only to chronicle for myself. I am hoping that I can inspire my Twitter buddies to do the same so we can all see how horrifically geeky we all are.

I am sure the first think you will say is WHAT!? So this is my back pack that I carry every day, dumped out in our family room. I’ll give a brief description of the contents.

When you are ready to do yours, the rules are as follows:

  • Only show the stuff you actually carry every day
  • Include everything, keys, wallet, etc.
  • Explain what and why

Jason’s Geek Bag – 3/10/2009

  • Macbook Pro: of course I have to have a laptop. I actually am issued one for work, but I never carry it outside of work. It has it’s own bag at the office, sometimes I shuffle things around when traveling overnight, but most things I can do with VPN and Windows Vista in VMWare Fusion.
  • Sennheiser Noise Canceling Headphones: I actually carry about 5 pairs of headphones, elsewhere in the picture is the premium Zune headphones that I really like and in my misc. cable case I have a few pairs of cheap buds in case I need to share. Notice there is a headphone splitter in the photo for that purpose also.
  • Sony Playstation Portable: Sometimes you need downtime entertainment. The iPhone is great, but it doesn’t play games like Rainbow Six Vegas!
  • Canon G9 Digital Camera: Also you will notice that I carry two cameras, the G9 is my mini-SLR replacement for when I need really good photos on the go. I also have the little Canon SD1100 IS in the front pocket of my bag for when I need to carry it around with me for a bit. Yes, the iPhone takes photos, but sucky ones. The SD1100 IS also has one of the Eye-Fi cards in it for wireless photo transfer.
  • Garmin eTrex Legend HCx: I got lost in downtown Seattle once…once.
  • Card Reader: Damn Macbook Pro doesn’t have a built in card reader, bleh.
  • Tools: These go when I fly, but they have saved my ass several times.
  • Sprint Cellular Modem: Sometimes you need data and there isn’t free WiFi, also Microsoft blocks FTP at work and I AM a blogger :)
  • Thumb Drives: 2GB was a conference freebie, 16GB for when I need to carry some stuff. Also not pictured is the 160GB portable Hard Drive I left on my desk at work, yikes.
  • Paper and Pens: Sometimes taking notes on a digital device isn’t practical. Of course keep several Microsoft pens for when you want to schmooze. Notice the mini-Sharpie, man I love Sharpies, I am an addict.
  • Wallet, Keys and Badge: All obvious, along with the IM A PC (I get the irony since I am usually toting a Mac) boggin’ I keep in my bag pouch, bald heads get cold man.
  • Zune: Ah, yes, my beloved Zune. 120GB of ever evolving music. Zune Pass is the shit. Also the Zune Premium Headphones.
  • iPod Nano: along with the not pictured Nike+ unit, this is my gym and workout tunes.
  • iPhone: This device completes me.
  • Samsung Bluetooth Headset
  • Flashlight: You never know man.

That’s all folks. What’s in YOUR bag?
