Metoo - I've preferred Mesh as my sync platform despite it beeing in beta and all. I use Mesh across my media pc, my desktop pc, work pc and laptop - I like to have my work and private stuff all over the place :-)

But what did Microsoft do? Offer a mesh upgrade with live essentials, that only supports Windows 7? Half my pc are XP. No way i'm going to upgrade two pcs and dismiss sync'ing at work in order to keep meshing. Stuck after upgrading to windows live essentials, trying to uninstall and replace with live mesh beta, I gave up and installed dropbox :-(

Added bonus - i got an iPad - and no sync'ing headaches - I'm just happy ;-)

Would like to sync individual folders the "mesh way" though - like your IE hyperlink folder - switched to Google Chrome and that problem was fixed - but there's also a desktop, certain programmes that save data in "Programmes", user dictionaries and so on.

Mayby these problems and fixes are just steps to more mature cross-device solutions - like the cloud?

Hi Jason, good post. I too found Windows Live Mesh to be confusing and overcomplex, and LOVE the simplicity of Dropbox. I too am a "Microsoft guy," but I think MS has lost their way in terms of making good technology easy to use -- if they ever were on the path.

I blogged about this -- and other Windows ideas -- at

You Microsoft Benedict Arnold you... I agree that the Mesh app doesn't compare with Dropbox (and that frustrates me), but as an MS programmer, why don't you push a Mesh app that's competitive??

Hey there, I'm Spencer. I work for a company named Syncables, and after reading through this, I think you might want to check us out. We make a localized syncing software that I've found makes a great compliment to dropbox. Our client is cross-platform, and it lets you keep your files, contacts and email synced between your computers over your home or office network, which is great for when you can't get an internet connection but still need to transfer things between your machines. Additionally, Syncables includes a media component, which allows you to upload your media to any phone or usb drive.

Anyway, come check us out sometime at www.syncables.com!
